In October 2023, the CCJ Academy for Law hosted its Seventh Biennial Law Conference in Bridgetown, Barbados, focusing on the urgent need for criminal justice reform in the Caribbean. Recognizing the unacceptable levels of crime and the intolerable delays in the administration of justice, participants from across the region came together to endorse a comprehensive set of policy and legislative interventions. These included viewing crime as a public health emergency, enacting laws to address modern criminal activities like cyber-crime and money laundering, and ensuring timely trials and adequate support for victims and offenders.
The conference emphasized the importance of a holistic and inclusive approach to reform, advocating for the provision of adequate resources to criminal justice institutions and the establishment of Public Defender Offices. By adopting these measures, the participants aspired to create a modern, transparent, and accountable criminal justice system that would enhance peace, order, and stability, ultimately fostering social and economic development across the Caribbean.
Founded with a vision to revolutionize criminal justice in the Caribbean, our movement is dedicated to implementing comprehensive reforms that address the region’s pressing issues. We focus on modernizing legal frameworks to tackle contemporary crimes such as cyber-crime and money laundering, while ensuring timely justice and support for all stakeholders. By fostering a transparent, accountable, and efficient criminal justice system, we aim to enhance peace, order, and stability, contributing to the social and economic development of the Caribbean.
